6 smoke alerts across Burnett

Ban Ban, MP Creek and Mount McEuen residents are being warned of smoke impacting their region as of Wednesday afternoon, 24 September.

There are currently six smoke alerts issued by the Queensland Fire Department across the South and North Burnett regions, including Ban Ban, Mount McEuen, Didcot, Dirnbir, Wondai and Cooyar-Yarraman.

The Queensland Fire Department reported that the smoke affecting Ban Ban and surrounding areas was from a fire burning near Brian Pastures Road at Ban Ban.

Meanwhile, there has reportedly been smoke affecting the MP Creek and Mount McEuen and surrounding areas due to multiple fires burning in the area.

There are currently no properties at risk, however some roads may be closed as a result of the fire and smoke.

QFD advises affected residents that smoke can make it hard for some people to breathe and can make it hard to see while driving.

Avoid smoke alerts also remain current for Wondai, Cooyar-Yarraman, as well as Dirnbir and Didcot near Gayndah.

Near Gayndah, smoke is afffecting Didcot with a fire burning near Auburn Hills Road and also Dirnbir with a fire active near Browns Road.

Over at Cooyar, there are multiple fires burning in the Cooyar, Mount Binga and surrounding areas.

Finally, at Wondai smoke is affecting the area due to a fire burning in the Wondai State Forest.

What you should do:

– Stay inside and close windows and doors.

– Keep respiratory medication close by.

– Follow your bushfire survival plan now. If you do not have a bushfire survival plan, make one on the QFD website.

– Avoid driving through smoke if you can.

– Watch out for firefighters working in the area.

– Do not fly drones around the fire. Drones affect air operations.
