North Burnett Australia Day nominations open now

Nominations are now open for the North Burnett Regional Council Australia Day Awards.

All members of the North Burnett community are invited to consider nominating and celebrating the remarkable contributions of individuals, community groups, and organisations across our region.

The Australia Day Awards recognise and pay tribute to residents and groups who generously go above and beyond to improve the lives of others in our community.

“Our region is home to incredibly dedicated and selfless individuals who work tirelessly for the betterment of the communities,” North Burnett Regional Council Mayor Les Hotz said.

“This could be a friend, workmate, sports club member, or someone you know who is making a difference behind the scenes and you couldn’t do without.”

Mayor Hotz encouraged North Burnett residents to take the time to submit a nomination for someone they believe is deserving of recognition.

“Being nominated for an Australia Day Award is a great honour, and it is a wonderful opportunity to show appreciation for their service across our diverse, friendly, and resilient communities,” he said.

If you know a person, community group, or quiet achiever who makes an extraordinary contribution, show your gratitude and nominate them for a 2026 Australia Day Award.

There are seven regional categories to choose from:

• North Burnett Citizen of the Year

• North Burnett Young Citizen of the Year

• North Burnett Volunteer of the Year

• North Burnett Community Organisation of the Year

• North Burnett Cultural Award

• North Burnett Sportsperson of the Year

• North Burnett Service to Sport

In addition to the Regional Awards, a Local Legend Award will be presented to a citizen from each town – Biggenden, Eidsvold, Gayndah, Monto, Mundubbera and Mt Perry – recognising those who make a lasting, positive impact within their local communities.

Nominations can be submitted until 11pm Monday, 24 November 2025, and the council is accepting both online and paper nominations.

To submit a nomination online or to download nomination forms, visit council’s website, northburnett.qld.gov.au/australia-day/ or a Customer Service and Library Centre near you.

If you require assistance writing your nomination or are not sure where to start, contact Council’s Community Development team for advice and assistance.
