Parkinson’s group catch-up

The October meeting of the South Burnett Parkinson’s Support Group was held at the Murgon Baptist Church Hall on Monday, 27 October.

Carmen opened the meeting at 10.00am and welcomed the fifteen attendees.

Apologies were received from Ron and Emily, Bill and Bev, Col and Alison and also Terry.

Phenella and Lena were the lucky chair prize winners with each of them choosing a prize from Carmen’s gift range.

The following birthdays were acknowledged: Jan – July 12th ; Lynette –September 3rd ; Gloria – September 20th ; Janette – October 11th and Julie – October 17th.

For the Christmas lunch, to be held on Monday 24th November, each person is to contribute a Christmas decoration worth no more than $5.

An invitation to attend our Christmas lunch has been emailed to Mayor Kathy Duff.

Doug made mention of the art gallery’s Elegant Afternoon Tea held on the previous Saturday which attracted approximately 40 art loving residents and visitors.

He also commented on the recent Cancer Support Group’s meeting at the Coffee Bar in town and how the art therapy appears to be having a positive effect on some people with mental health issues.

Kerry then took the floor and discussed the benefits for Parkinsons’ sufferers of having a weekly injection treatment instead of taking a lot of medication every day in tablet form.

This procedure has been trialled and tested on animals and has received the required approval for human use.

Kerry also talked about the benefits of exercise and the possibility of starting up a rail trail walking group.

He provided printouts describing various types of exercise, and then played a video which demonstrated a number of exercises including chair yoga all of which can be carried out while being seated.

The next and last get together for 2025 will be the Christmas Lunch to be held on Monday 24th November at the RSL sub branch welfare drop in centre at Stephens Street West, Murgon.

This event will commence at 11.00am with lunch being served from 12 midday.

So get dressed up and be prepared for a very festive, enjoyable time.

There will be Carmen’s poem, plus games, puzzles and fabulous company. Look forward to seeing you there. If you need further information on this occasion, please give me (Julie Berry) a call or text message on 0418 783 043.

Today’s meeting wound up at 11.35am.
