Enhancing playground safety

The South Burnett Regional Council is continuing its commitment to safe and enjoyable play spaces with an upcoming upgrade at Lions Park in Murgon.

From Thursday 13 November to Friday 21 November 2025, the popular Caterpillar play structure will be temporarily fenced off to allow for the installation of new softfall surfacing.

This upgrade follows recent restoration works on the Caterpillar, which included sanding and repainting the equipment to refresh its appearance and ensure its longevity.

The addition of softfall, a cushioned ground covering designed to reduce the risk of injury, marks another important step in Council’s ongoing efforts to improve playground safety across the region.

Councillor Heath Sander welcomed the initiative, stating, “The new softfall will be a great addition to the safety for little ones in our community. This will ensure enjoyed safety for many years to come”.

The project is being delivered under the council’s Capital Works Maintenance Program and is expected to be completed in time for the playground to reopen on Saturday 22 November 2025.

The South Burnett council appreciates the community’s patience during this brief closure and apologises for any inconvenience caused.

For further information, residents are encouraged to contact the parks department on (07) 4189 9100 or via email at info@sbrc.qld.gov.au
