Parkinson’s Support Group’s Christmas lunch

The South Burnett Parkinson’s Support Group held their Christmas lunch meeting at the RSL Sub-branch Welfare Centre (Stephens Street West, Murgon) on Monday, 24 November.

There were 22 attendees in total along with Councillor Heath Sander who called in for half an hour and made a speech wishing all present a healthy and happy Christmas.

Apologies were received from Col and Alison and Doug. Also absent were Irene, The Longs and Lynette. Alison sent a message of Happy Christmas wishes to the group.

It was a very colourful event with lots of different headwear as well as some bright shirts and dresses. Some lovely Christmas jewellery was evident too.

Carmen read out her clever and very witty annual poem which drew much laughter.

There were also raffle tickets and various games including Toy Toss. The winner of the IGA gift card to the value of $50 was won by Rosemary.

The Christmas personalities were as follows: Bill – Loudest Outfit, Stan –Funniest, Ancy – Tattoo, Merrilyn – Longest Kiss, Darryl – Announcer, Phenella – Up Early, Jan – Early Shopper, Lena – Jewellery, Ron T – Gentlest Donkey, Terry – Christmas Joke/Trivia.

A delicious two course meal was served at about 12noon which included roast meats and vegetables with dessert consisting of a choice between sticky date pudding with custard, or lemon pie with ice cream. A large bowl of punch was available throughout the course of the function.

The SB Parkinson’s Support Group was most appreciative of the lovely lunch prepared by Elaine (Bubbles) and her 2 “Elves”, Rose and Mark.

Terry made a speech thanking Carmen and Julie for their effort in organising the Christmas event. Mayor Kathy Duff also made a speech along similar lines.

Carmen advised that in the absence of any more meetings until February 2026, Julie would be happy to meet up for a morning tea get together at the Murgon Services Club on the last Monday of December, 29th and/or 26 January. Anyone interested in this idea please ring or text message Julie on 0418 783 043.

After saying goodbyes, the Christmas event wound up at approximately 2.15pm.
