‘Desert Rose’ returns to region

The federal government will once more dispatch one of its Mobile Service Centres to the North Burnett region, starting next week.

Services Australia’s MSC ‘Desert Rose’ will make its return to the North Burnett on Wednesday, 21 January, setting up shop on Mount Perry’s Heusman Street.

From there, the MSC will visit Monto, Eidsvold, Mundubbera, Gayndah and Biggenden, finishing its stint in the region on 5 February.

The Commonwealth’s Mobile Service Centre initiative is designed to bring access to government services like Medicare and Centrelink to rural and regional areas without brick-and-mortar locations.

Staff on board the MSC can aid locals with payments, answer any questions, and connect them to services like the Department of Veterans’ Affairs.

During natural disasters and other emergencies, the MSCs can also be dispatched to aid in recovery efforts.

‘Desert Rose’ has visited the North Burnett several times over the past years, stopping in the region in 2023 and 2024.

This year’s stopover dates are:

• Mount Perry: Heusman Street, near the post office

21 January, 9.30am – 4pm

• Monto: Rutherford Street, near the community hall

28 January, 11am – 4pm

29 January, 9am – 4pm

• Eidsvold: Moreton Street, near Apex Park

30 January, 9am – 4pm

• Mundubbera: Bauer Street, near the memorial gardens

2 February, 9am – 4pm

• Gayndah: location to be announced

3 and 4 February, 9am – 4pm

• Biggenden: Edward Street, near Beiers Park

5 February, 9am – 3pm
