Breakfast announcer Corky is going off the air from Christmas Eve, after a long career waking up with South Burnett listeners.

Corky (Chris Corcoran) is stepping away from his role as Good Morning South Burnett announcer to enjoy some relaxing time to himself.

He said the highlight of his career has been forming bonds with colleagues and community members.

“It has been an honour to share a laugh with all the wonderful listeners in the morning,” Corky said.

“As a team we have been able to continue to build a great community radio station through droughts and floods and tough economic times.”

Corky said he decided to work in radio because he has loved tuning in since he was a child.

“I have always loved how personal radio is,” Corky said.

“As a little tacker I could not sleep at night unless the radio was on.”

Nowadays, Corky said he has made many great memories including listening to his favourite rock band, Nickelback.

“Chatting with Kevin Bloody Wilson live from his toilet seat was a highlight,” Corky said.

However, Corky said not everything has always gone to plan, with him encountering challenges such as the unpredictable media landscape.

“The changing nature of media has been a real challenge,” Corky said.

“Staying connected to our South Burnett community allows us to remain relevant.”

When Corky finishes at Crow FM, he said he plans to enjoy some late mornings.

“When I finish, I will be sleeping in later than 4am for sure,” Corky said.

“It has been a wonderful time and I’m going to miss you all.

“Thank you to the super talented Crow team.”
