Kingaroy’s Wooroolin Warriors Cricket Club has donated $1500 to the South Burnett Relay For Life fundraising effort, following a successful evening at their end of season presentation dinner in April.
A silent auction was held on the night with items including a signed Brisbane Broncos jersey, a signed Brisbane Heat shirt and a signed cricket bat from the Queensland Sheffield Shield 20-21 Champions.
Vice President Trevor Hansen said the club was very satisfied to support such a a great cause, especially at a time when a family member of one of the clubs’ life members was currently undergoing regular treatment in Toowoomba for cancer.
Hansen said a special mention must go the Club Patron, Carl Rackemann, as well as special guest Darren Lehmann, for organising and donating numerous items for the club to auction.
“Given the success of this years’ auction, the cricket club would certainly look at doing a similar auction next year and try to raise an even larger amount,” Hansen said.
Our Club has always been very community minded.
“We will also be donating $1500 to the St George and District Drought Appeal, which is an area our Club has visited on an end of season trip in 2019,” he said.
“Subsequent planned visits to the area in 2020 and 2021 have been unable to go ahead due to Covid restrictions and work commitments, however, we are still very happy to be making a donation to the area this year.”
Rowena Dionysius accepted the donation and thanked the club, one that her family has had a long affiliation with. both her husband and son are past members.
“It gives me great pride to accept this donation for South Burnett Relay For Life and I look forward to adding it to our growing total for 2021 which will take the total over $16,000,” she said.
Relay for Life will be held at the Kingaroy Show Grounds on 9 October starting at 12pm until 8pm. This year we are just so happy to have an event after 2020 and although it’s an eight hour event, I’m sure we will all celebrate our fundraising in our usual South Burnett style. Registrations are now open.
